Meeting held at Pana Bello from 8:30-12:30. Attendance:
Jason Everett, Graci Gillming, Robert Hays, Ron Cone, Bob Lungrin, and
John Stritt.
TECHS Mid-Year Review
- Content Discussion
- Number of lessons, order of lessons, could lessons be put in modulars for selection.
- Content needs to be reviewed. Suggested that TECHS teachers be involved in the review.
- Assessment/standards needs to be a focus for improvement.
Bob Lungrin suggested that we put together a minimum of 6 teachers to
review lessons and have the teachers review or improve assessments,
connect ISTE tech standards to the lessons, and include a connection to
NDE's career fields plan. (Possible funding through a 3rd Perkins
innovative application.) Bob suggested that we ask Gregg
Christensen or Bonnie Sibert to assist us in the career fields review.
- Who is the target audience and establishing this as part of a class.
- Target audience could actually expand to a general technology class rather then just a class for potential LAN support.
- The class should be entered in as part of the regular curriculum.
- That followup classes should be made available for students. Microsoft, Cisco, A+
- Lesson Discussion
- Lesson delivery - Was a shotgun approach for sharing the
lessons the best way - download streaming lessons or IPOD
delivery. Agreed that for large group that the downloading
streaming would be better. Shotgun approach seems to be the
best.
- Lesson evaluation - Still looking at designing a
self-evaluation tool for our lessons. Variety of ways
incorporated in lessons have included interviews, talking head,
powerpoint presentations, free form, skits, movies, and demonstrations.
- 2020 Conference Discussion
- Listed pros and cons for separating the 2020 conference into
two different conferences, an every other year conference,
sponsorships, etc.
- Concerns for repeating 2020 like this year included
- too large of a group
- tough to get sectionals to meet both educators and students
- can you have an important topic like "one to one" to focus on each year
- will teachers want to come if the target is for students
- funding for a student based workshop
- location and cooridation of the conference
- ESU 10 will further discuss plans for 06-07.
- TECHS proposal for 06-07 Discussion
- Schools will need to assume the costs for the class
- Projected school costs (under review and will be finalized by end of January?)
- $150 per student for the year
- Setup fee if not contracted school (funds for elearning and help desk support
- Equipment requirements of first time of about $1,200 and $500 per year after that.
- Would it be better to wrap all of this into one flat fee rather then parts?
- To share the program outside of current borders, a proposal to
split the $150 per student fee on a 75/25 ratio with the local ESU
providing support service for their students for the class
- ESU responsibilities would include
- Supporting participating schools/students
- Periodic on site visits with schools
- Gather followup reports/surveys/evaluations
- Periodic TECHS leadership meetings to discuss progress of TECHS (held at TAG meetings)
- Jason Everett will schedule time to share this proposal at January TAG meeting.
